DAW 2016

It has come around again, Dorset Arts Weeks and once more I am fortunate to be exhibiting in the chapel at Othona West Dorset.  Its always a most enjoyable event meeting so many visitors who have a genuine interest with art and so many questions.  Not to mention the wonderful cream teas on offer.

Dorset Art Weeks

I am now enjoying the sunshine on the Jurrasic Coastline near Burton Bradstock as I am lucky enough to be taking part in the Dorset Art Weeks at the Othona Community.  I am a regular visitor to Othona as it is a wonderful place to recharge my batteries and at times concentrate on some new drawings.  The place has had an integral part in the development of my work, so it was a great pleasure to be invited to show here alongside four other artists. 

We have made use of the chapel and library as exhibition space and have been able to show about 100 pieces of work between us.  Certainly I have never had the chance to show many pieces at once so it has been both daunting and exciting to do so.  At one point I was not quite sure if I would be able to pack everything into the car but it all managed to fit.

We allowed ourselves a couple of days to hang and prepare which went quite quickly but without being too pressured.  Last night we had a preview evening before opening our doors to the public this morning.

So we are here until the 10^th of June with cream teas each afternoon so I'll have to go easy on those or there maybe an expanding waistline to go with the suntan.

The other artists showing are Sue Kemp, Edward Robinson, Elizabeth Sayers and Mart Tebbs.

The Surrey Open Art Competition

The Lightbox in Woking is currently hosting the Surrey Open Art Competition which takes place there every two years.  I am happy to say that my entry, along with those of six other members of Ochre Studios were accepted and are now on display until 13th May.

Just over 60 works were chosen from around 300 entries so the studio has done well so have so many representatives.

The work I entered is below, it is a silkscreen monoprint on canvas.

Lockwood Print Group

Last night I went to the opening of the Lockwood Print Group's exhibition Fur, Feathers, Fingers and Fins at the Lewis Elton Gallery at the University of Surrey, Guildford.  The Group all attend Lockwood and meet one day a week with Julie and Annee in the studio.  They have been working very hard over the last few months and with the help of Lindsey and Tina as well have produced some lovely and  humourous works of all sorts of animals, fishes, birds as well as their own hands.

The Mayor of Guildford came to open the exhibition and was particuarly taken by one screenprint, entittled 'Teddy made me do it '.  For me I think I most enjoyed the nodding reindeer heads on the back wall, each individually coloured.

The exhibition is on for the next couple of weeks, I recommend a visit if you can, the joy of the artists making the work will leave you with a smile on your face.

Open Studio

Well the Surrey Artist Open Studios event is on and Ochre are taking part for the fourth year running.  Following on from Ron Pokrasso’s  workshop it has been a busy time.  We had the open studio private view on Saturday, having hung the final few pieces of the exhibition on Friday night.  Saturday was a lively affair with some bands playing and refreshments available and the studio open for people to try their hands at producing a monotype.

We are open again this weekend (11-5pm) so come down and see a wide variety of high quality work by over 30 members of the studio on display.
